For so long many have lived in fear, fear of being rejected, fear of the unknown, fear of what people will say when they find out, fear of showing who they are and expressing what they feel. Many have become dumb, simply because they are scared of speaking out or voicing their own opinion. Our children are not left out in this as well.
Many people still believe that fear only happens in frightful situation but that’s far from it. Fear starts by hunting our subconscious mind thereby making us live in fear all the time. The truth is many of us may never know what true happiness is until we stop living in fear.
When I was little, my elder ones made me so scared of the dark. Whenever I wanted to go to a place they didn’t want me to go they would quickly say “ojuju is there”” (those of you that are Nigerians would understand) in other words “the boggey man is there” and so I grew up scared of the ojuju man that doesn’t even exist. I couldn’t sleep alone because my mind wouldn’t stop playing the scenerio of  the ojuju man being in my room. This wasn’t a good ordeal at all.
This is still happening to many of us. We have a scary picture of things that don’t exist and the thoughts keeps hunting us till date. Most of our fears begins from the mind. What the mind can’t perceive, the brain won’t process. So, how about we start feeding our mind with positive thoughts. Shall we?
According to Psychology Today, it says and I quote ” Fear is a vital response to physical and emotional danger—if we didn’t feel it, we couldn’t protect ourselves from legitimate threats. But often we fear situations that are far from life-or-death, and thus hang back for no good reason. Trauma‘s or bad experiences can trigger a fear response within us that is hard to quell. Yet exposing ourselves to our personal demons is the best way to move past them”
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9…Not many believers take into cognisant this words of promise. It’s time we lived above our fears. We have been redeemed from all our fears, we no longer need to live in fear of the unknown, fear of being judged, or of punishment and condemnation.
If you are reading these words, perhaps you know what it’s like to battle fear every day. Perhaps you’ve been plagued with fear of being unable to cope with certain changes in your life, maybe you are scared of loosing your health, your job, or leaving that abusive relationship, of your step father who won’t stop abusing you and your mother, or you are suffering from severe anxiety attacks and the thoughts of going anywhere outside your home fills you with suffocating fear. I want you to know that is not the life God wants you to live. With the perfection of Christ’s finished work, He has made a way for you to be free. “You are free…Free from your fears! It’s time to confront your fears!
