Not Broken.

You Are Not Broken.

My life is directed by many values. Values that have shaped my beliefs, customs and strength. As I grew older, I have come to understand nothing has shaped me more than knowing that I am not broken for anyone to fix. As a counselor, mother, educator, the first thing I tell my clients, students and daughters when they are feeling worn-out, overwhelmed and displaced, is, “You’re not broken”. I feel that life lessons are learned when one is strengthened psychologically. I do not allow my moral beliefs to be swayed in opposing directions by anyone. Standing out from others is not something people would normally want or accept, but that’s okay. I find that being different is a positive way to be identified and remembered.

Everyone is special and unique in their own way, whether they have disabilities or bad habits. Very often we feel we are in the position to fix people and so we go about acting all self righteous and know it all. Very often we speak up only to throw our opinions, ideas and thoughts to people who needs their voices to be heard. Your opinion ends up being unwanted and unhelpful. Don’t give advice to people or try to fix anyone unless they ask for it. If you do, it would only appear belittling to them and you would come off as a know it all and trust me, no one likes a know it all.

Quit sharing criticism at someone else’s expense. Study what you don’t understand rather than write it off. Be patient with people. There are people who find themselves constantly debased by life struggles, overwhelmed with all they find themselves in on a daily basis. You, on the other hand, may have control over your own destiny and have things working out for you and so you fail to realize that those people with issues are pleasant people, extremely amazing but lack the ability to succeed. They are in a difficult situation doesn’t mean they are, “broken”.

If you find yourself with a dark cloud hovering overhead, understand that it’s not a definition of you are. It’s only a phase that will pass. You have more courage, strength and will than you can ever imagine. Your ability to endure more hardships, make more sacrifices for others is applaudable and it’s something many of us don’t have. You know what it means to be humble and you also appreciate the smallest blessings your lives have been bestowed with. You’ve got no need to feel dominant over anyone. You are kind and respectful regardless of the situation you find yourself in. Never allow anyone to tag you, “broken”.

If you’re reading this now, I need you to know you’re amazing. You’re one of a kind. Exceptionally created and gifted. There’s no one earth like you. You deserve to be loved, cared for, and you deserve peace of mind. No one should take that away from you. Surround yourself with people who see past your flaws and love you warts and all. Most importantly, you deserve someone who, wouldn’t you in ways you would never think of hurting them.

Love you all.

Blessings and Love
