I hate to delve into Nigeria’s current political matters. However, my observation from the list of appointees is that Mr. President has surrounded himself with Northerners in the areas of security because those are the ones he knows and trusts. He believes they cannot betray him because of money. It is only natural and realistic that any person in such a position as Mr. President will only appoint those he trusts to security positions. All former Nigerian Presidents did the same. Otherwise, why did Former President Jonathan retire the Service Chiefs and security apparatus that served under President Yaradua and himself, immediately he became President? Thinking about it, the Northerners appear to be better in the areas of security and fighting financial crimes while the southerners are better in matters of managing the economy and finances if the country. Why not combine both for the benefit of Nigeria by deploying people more to their areas of competences. What matters are results. If Nigeria becomes as prosperous as USA in Africa nobody cares whether it was achieved by a leader from a particular tribe or religion in Nigeria. Instead, we shall be the proud beneficiaries of such an achievement. Think of an industrialised Nigeria with thousands of industries employing millions of Nigerians. A Nigeria with a vibrant agricultural industrial sectors that is able to feed all Nigerians and all African in addition to exporting massive agricultural products (raw & finished) to generate significant foreign exchange for the country. How about becoming the foremost mining country in Africa and one of the largest in the world. How about having the largest petroleum refining and petrochemical industry in Africa. Having even more robust Nollywood,  telecoms, high technology business successes that will significantly improve  Nigeria’s economic sectors. If these are achieved, Nigeria should have very low unemployment rate of less than 5%, very robust foreign exchange reserves and surplus balance of trade position with its trading partners. Nigeria can easily achieve the status of a major net exporter of goods and services in the world today. The question is does it matter where a President that will enable Nigeria achieve the  above come from? Does it matter who he trusts to help him achieve the above? Thank God we have solid and active religious organizations in Nigeria that will never allow a state religion in Nigeria’s current circular religious status. If the government of the day fails to perform, Nigerians can easily vote out that govt every 4 years, regardless of incumbency. Had to write a long post as my network might not permit me to say all I want to say for now.
